As one of many things I've been curious over, random dye is currently in my focus. The main catalyst was having to dye an item ~10,300 times to roll 255 White on it, only finally getting it today. I had almost felt like it rolling it the first time was a bug, and I wished I had a way to know for sure if it could roll it. As it so turns out, now I can! ...Soon.
The ability to do this is a cross of having information from datamining, and having information/experience from random dye ingame on specific items. To actually complete this, both sides need to work together. I tend to random dye quite a few items myself, but I've bit off a bit more than I can chew for now, project-wise. I'll try to work on this, but I have many other things eating my science-time, for now.
To help out, you can post items that you know *for absolute certain* can roll 255 White, and in exactly which color box they can do so. Other notable colors if you happen to know them for similar certainty would be appreciated as well (25 Black, sub-25 Black, over 240 White, etc).
Additionally, and maybe even more significantly, items/color boxes that it is *impossible* to roll 255 White on will help as well. If posting that an item can't roll 255 White, please be very sure about it.
Each material_type has a predefined list of colors it can roll, and it can ONLY roll those colors. This color list can either be very long, or very short. The longest comprehensive list I have completed so far is 55 colors, and the shortest is 15. I have a suspicion the metal types are MUCH larger though
.
What this means is, once I have fully mapped out a material_type, or once I have confirmed a color's presence in its list, I automatically know that every item with that material_type in a box can roll it. There are thousands of items, but only about 70 material_types. In this way, it is actually fully possible to map out every item's color data.
In the post below, I will be listing out my results so far. If you want to contribute, please leave a post below of what item you are dyeing, and which color box the results are for. I HIGHLY recommend you contact me first though, to make sure that you are not doing a material_type I have already completed.

How the system works
There is a table in the files dedicated to declaring the properties of items. One of those sets of properties is the color boxes. Each color box is assigned a material_type, or left blank if it is not used on the item (such as on Halos). Each material_type has a predefined list of colors it can roll, and it can ONLY roll those colors.
